City and partners host GIS Tech Day to share knowledge and drive smarter urban solutions

On Thursday, 4 June 2025, the City of Cape Town’s GIS & Surveys unit, in partnership with Esri South Africa, hosted its annual GIS Tech Day. This year’s event brought together industry experts and thought leaders to showcase the latest innovations, trends, and advancements in GIS and surveying technology. The theme for 2025, ‘Unlocking Efficiency: Data Insights for Better Business’ highlighted the transformative role of geospatial intelligence in driving smarter, data-informed decision-making across sectors.

‘The event placed a strong emphasis on knowledge sharing and collaborative problem-solving, featuring informative presentations and interactive demonstrations of cutting-edge GIS and geospatial software, tools, and applications. It served as a valuable platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, explore practical solutions to real-world challenges faced by the City, and advance smarter, more efficient approaches to property and urban management through the power of geospatial intelligence,’ said the City’s Executive Director for Economic Growth, Ruby Gelderbloem.
